GREETING (2 Cor 13:14) The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.
CALL TO WORSHIP We gather in the presence of God’s Spirit. The Spirit is life and peace. The Spirit offers promise to each new day. The Spirit brings hope out of despair. And even in death—through God’s Spirit, we discover life. God’s Spirit dwells within us. We gather to worship in the presence of God’s Spirit. Thanks be to God.
OPENING PRAYER Creator God, we come today grateful for the gentle breezes of summer and secure in the faith that we live surrounded by your love. We come here today professing a simple faith: You are God, and in you, all things are possible. Amen.
HYMN VU 313 God, Whose Almighty Word 1. God, whose almighty word chaos and darkness heard, and took their flight, hear us, we humbly pray, and where the gospel day sheds not its glorious ray, let there be light. 2. Jesus, who came to bring on your redeeming wing, healing and sight, health to the troubled mind, sight to the Spirit-blind, O now to humankind let there be light. 3. Spirit of truth and love, lifegiving, holy dove, speed forth your flight; move on the water's face, bearing the lamp of grace, and in earth's darkest place let there be light. 4. Blessed and holy three, glorious trinity, wisdom, love, might, boundless as ocean's tide rolling in fullest pride, through the world far and wide, let there be light.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION Merciful God, you made us in your image, with a mind to know you, a heart to love you, and a will to serve you. But our knowledge is imperfect, our love inconstant, our obedience incomplete. Day by day, we fail to grow into your likeness. In your tender love, forgive.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE God has sown the seed of abundant life in you. With God’s love and Christ’s Grace you are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION As we prepare to listen for what the Bible is saying to us, let us pray: Creator, we pray, as we receive your word, bless us with your wisdom and grace that we may join your Spirit’s dance, and be moved to live in the way of your Christ. Amen.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 119 :105-112 (VU 841, Refrain 5)
Your word is a lamp for my feet. Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23 The parable of the sower and the seed. RESPONSE: The word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
PRAYER OF PREPARATION We prepare to reflect on God’s word.
SERMON “God’s Good Seed!”
HYMN MV 174 Soil of God, You and I
1. Soil of God, you and I, stand ready to bear seeds of faith nourished by God's tender care. Growing in everyone for here God is found. All stand together, we are...Holy ground.
2. Soil of God, you and I, now ready to be part of God's promise, for others to see. Open to everyone for here God is found. All stand together, we are...Holy ground.
3. Soil of God, you and I, now called to rebirth, joining as partners with all of the earth. Living in harmony for here God is found. All stand together, this is...Holy ground.
PROFESSION OF FAITH A New Creed
We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

OFFERING We honour all the ways we give as we dedicate our offering.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION OF GIFTS AND SELF
God, you have sown the good seed, your word given to us through scripture, and spoken in our hearts and in our church and in our world. Accept the gifts we offer, that they may help make fertile soil in which your seeds of bold truth, of nurturing care, and of liberating justice may grow and flourish in us, in this church and beyond. In Jesus’ name we offer these gifts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
OFFERTORY Minuets 1&2 from English Suite #4 ~J.S. Bach
A single stone placed in the offering plate honours all our gifts.
HYMN MV 150 Spirit God, Be Our Breath 1. Spirit God: be our breath, be our song. Blow through us, bringing strength to move on. Our world seems inward, defensive, withdrawn... Spirit God, be our song. 2. Patient God: soothe our pride, calm our fear. Comfort us. When we know you are near we grow more certain, our vision is clear. Patient God, calm our fear. 3. Loving God: be our voice, be our prayer. Reaching out, joining hands as we share, we seek your guidance through friendship and care. Loving God, be our prayer. 4. Spirit God: be our breath, be our song. Blow through us, bringing strength to move on. Through change, through challenge, we'll greet the new dawn... Spirit God, be our song.
